Do You Want Disks With That?

Enterprise IT Toolkit

NAS Gateways provide a front end to your existing storage infrastructure, providing (typically) a NFS/CIFS based file system overlay to an FC SAN backend.

But using a NAS gateway presumes, of course, that you already have a storage infrastructure.

For those that don't (or just want to expand) ONStor this week introduced their new Pantera Series Clustered NAS platform, which combines their existing Bobcat NAS Gateways with your choice of SAS or SATA disk arrays. The platforms are targeted to deployments requiring scalable expansion, as both the filers (up to 8) and disk arrays can be added to the platform non-disruptively and high availability features are offered that allow active/active N-way clustering among the filers. According to ONStor, the platform can scale up to "petabytes" of data. The new platform includes and complements the vendor's flagship Bobcat NAS Gateway line and is our featured new product of the week.

And elsewhere in the Enterprise IT Planet Product Guide universe: D-Link introduces a two-disk network storage enclosure with built in rights management and support for RAID 1 disk mirroring; while Oakley Networks' new CoreView offering hopes to detect insider threats at the network communications level.
